Wolgan Valley Spa and Resort - New South Wales - Australia
Wolgan Valley Resort and Spa nestles within the World Heritage-listed Blue Mountains.
The resort is bordered by the Wollemi and the Gardens of Stone national parks. Although it feels a world away from the hustle and bustle of Sydney, theBlue Mountains resort can be reached in less than three hours by car.
As the day progresses from morning to afternoon and then from dusk to night, so too does the appearance of Wolgan Valley and its wildlife, with various changes of guard taking place throughout the day. Since much of Australia's wildlife is nocturnal, night spotting activities offer a very different perspective to trips out during the daylight hours.
At Wolgan Valley, the Timeless Spa experience is second to none and offers a broad selection of holistic therapies from around the world. In addition to the signature Timeless products, two further ranges complement the collection and are used in the various treatments on offer at the luxury spa facilities. These include Australia's Sodashi range (which is 100 per cent organic and inspired by nature) as well as restorative products from leading spa brand, Babor of Germany.
For those guests keen to maintain their exercise regime while on holiday, there are two outdoor tennis courts onsite, as well as a fully-equipped gymnasium with personal trainers and floor-to-ceiling windows, which present inspiring views of the dramatic Blue Mountains scenery.
Although each guest suite has its own plunge pool, there is also a larger communal pool for all guests to use along with a spa pool, sauna and steam room.

Sustainable/Ethical Credentials
back to topNo trees were uprooted during the resort's construction and the resort's opening in October 2009, Emirates' Wolgan Valley Resort & Spa has become not only the first carboNZero©™ certified resort in the world, but also the first carbon neutral resort in the world to be certified through an internationally accredited and accepted greenhouse gas programme.
With over 175,000 indigenous trees already planted in the wildlife corridors and along creek banks on site, the resort is committed to protecting endangered Australian flora and fauna and to restoring the valley's natural balance and beauty. This includes the reintroduction of the Wollemi Pine (Wollemia nobilis), which was thought to be extinct. The tree, which belongs to the 200 million year old plant family Araucariaceae, was discovered in a nearby canyon in 1994, and is considered one of the most exciting botanical finds of the century. Its discovery has been compared to the equivalent of finding a live dinosaur in the present time.
Built to blend into the natural landscape with the least impact to its surrounding environment, the resort's conservation-led principles reflect in its design, environmentally sensitive construction and its operating philosophy.
In collaboration with local authorities, the resort has been able to take small volumes of water from Carne Creek, considered to be one of the purest rivers in Australia. Additionally, rainwater tanks have also been built at every building within the resort to provide water for non-potable uses. All domestic water is recycled, while 'grey' water nutrients are removed by way of paddock irrigation and 'black' water is treated on-site. The resort's laundry services are contracted to an eco-sensitive local supplier in the nearby town of Lithgow. Only bio-degradable cleaning products are used within the resort, ensuring even the cleaning processes are kind to the environment, without compromising on health and hygiene.
Local carpenters used wood from fallen trees to craft exquisite furniture within the resort, while original steel and wooden fence posts from the early days of colonial settlement have been creatively restored as lighting and design fixtures. Throughout the construction process, all waste material was disposed of at municipal sites. In order to reduce operational waste on site, suppliers are requested to remove unnecessary packaging.
At Wolgan Valley Resort & Spa, there is a firm belief that the environment must be preserved wherever possible. This also extends to the removal of invasive exotic plant species and feral pests.

back to topJust 190 kilometres, or a three hour drive from Sydney in New South Wales, Wolgan Valley Resort & Spa is remarkably accessible, yet feels a world away. The quaint antique and curio shops of the surrounding Blue Mountain townships are all close-at-hand, as are attractions such as the Zig-zag Railway, cable car, Three Sisters and Jenolan Caves.
The Wolgan Valley is approximately 26 kilometres long, and varies in width from six or seven kilometres at its widest points before it narrows to a bottleneck of just one kilometre where the Wolgan River cuts a deep gorge through the sandstone.
Tall, almost vertical cliffs, contrast with the gentle curve of the Valley floor and a private road branches off the Wolgan Road to follow the river through to the property.
Wolgan Valley Resort & Spa is located at the southern end of the Valley, at the foot of Mount Wolgan and Donkey Mountain (major landmarks at 877 and 995 metres above sea level respectively).
*To ensure maximum privacy and seclusion, the resort is for exclusive use ofresident guests only. Outside or day visitors are not permitted.
