The World of Luxury Eco Resorts
The luxury end of the eco accommodation is a growing sector. A recent report by the Netherlands Development Organisation stated that more travellers are wanting to experience local cultures and while not missing out on the creature comforts.
One of the great benefits of many eco resorts and this includes African Safari Lodges is that they expose, benovelent guests to communities in need or environments or specific species under threat. There are many potential gains from this exposure, if they are ethically fair eco resorts they pay their staff a decent rate of pay. They will be able to involve their guests in projects that are of benefit to either the local community or the local environment. Also they put kind hearted people, with money in front of situations which can benefit from their charitable natures. One of the specific benefits is that unlike NGOs or charities who have to spend a certain amount of their income on campaigns.
The money generated by an eco resort can be channelled directly to where its required. Also money given can be given to the charity as the running costs of the guests stay have already been taken out of the equasion. Also the direct contact between the guests and the people running the charitable projects means they can ask questions and really find out how their money is being spent and will be spent. Which for obvious reasons cannot be the case when people donate to a charity working in a far off land. In many cases there is shared ownership, profit share and in some cases the luxury eco resort is owned and run by the local community.
One of the best things to come out of an eco resort is that they are often embedded within the community, NGOs have to set up projects and some cases they only have a limited period of time in which to execute a project. A luxury eco resort can see the problems that need to be addressed, but also have the power to help. Education is an ongoing process, so if theit guests or theirs or their guesta and the resorts contributions build or co-build a school, they can keep it running so that the kids that attend the school have continuity in the learning. The same is true for let's say a breeding program for an endangered species the resort can keep it going and because it has a vested interest, in both the marketing for the eco resort itself, and the animals which are also an attraction for the eco resort.
