While staying at Lion Sands River Lodge you can either choose to go on a Game Drive where the lodge’s local guides will give you an impressive insight into the abundant animal and bird life which surrounds you. If you’d like a more authentic safari experience, you can take a bush walk and see members of the big five up close, in their natural surroundings. You can also take a Hippo Drive where you can see these incredible animals as well as African Nile Crocodiles.
Look to the Stars
If you are a stargazer the lodge is an ideal place to broaden your knowledge of the night sky. You can look up see a sky unpolluted by the ambient light of major conurbations. Staff at the lodge can also enlighten you as to how the stars have been instrumental in the African Folklore of the local peoples.

Relax at the Spa
The lodge has a Health Spa, so you can relax and spoil yourself with a comprehensive set of revitalising options including hydrotherapy, facial and body treatments. Even though you are in the deep in the African Bush you need not compromise on luxury and comfort.
Take to the Skies
You can take to the skies with a gentle hour long Balloon Flight which will carry you over the Sabie River Valley as the early morning sun broadens over the horizon of the plain. After which you can enjoy an English breakfast in a small bush lodge as bush comes to life around you. If you fancy something a little faster, you can take a Helicopter Flight and see some the entrancing sights of Northern Drakensburg including the Blydepoort Dam the Blyde River Canyon and the Three Rondawels. As you fly out of the canyon, you’ll pass over the Berlin and Lisbon Falls and be taken on to a quiet picnic already prepared for you beside the Pinnacle. Once you’ve eaten, you’ll be flown on past God's Window, Wonder View, Panorama Falls, before heading back to Lion Sands.
Play Through
Although Golf may not be the first thing which springs to mind when thinking of the African Bush, Kruger National Park offers you the unique opportunity to play at the Skukuza Golf Course. You the can play 9-holes, and you may have to stop occasionally to let a herd of zebra or antelope pass through, before playing on.
Going Local
If you want to learn more about the people of the Shangaan nation, you can visit them at a local cultural village, you can also visit the Huntington Home-Based Care Organization and learn more about their excellent work. As well as meeting the lively children at the Henna Pre-School.
Shooting (Not at the Animals)
If you want to brush up on your shooting with a little target practice, there's a range 25 minutes away by vehicle where you can enjoy clay pigeon shooting, under the supervision of a qualified ranger. You may also shoot calibre rifles, but this must be specifically arranged.
The Treehouse
You can take it easy in the Chalkley Treehouse, built around a 500 year-old Leadwood Tree, it is completely secure. You’ll not have to make any compromises on comfort as it still five star luxury. Staff will take you to the treehouse a little before sunset, drinks and superb dinner will be ready for you. You can then relax in good company as you wonder at the beauty of your surroundings, before falling asleep beneath the enchanting African stars. (Maximum of 2 people)
