There are very few hotels which have a subtropical water park, this hotel is one of the rare exceptions which make it an ideal choice for families.  As the name suggests, the hotel is a very short distance from the Frederikshavn ferry terminals.  If you want to Explore Frederikshavn there's plenty to see nearby like the Krudttårnet (The Powder Magazine) an fort near to the port or Frederikshavn Kirke (the church of Frederikshavn) a beautiful church built in the Roman style.  

The main attraction of the hotel is its Sub Tropical Water Park.  "The Reef" is waterworld of adventure which has been inspired by the Caribbean.  Adults and kids can enjoy water-slides, pools, saunas and waterfalls. 

The Sub Tropical Water Park is spread across 1500 sqm, at is centre is a mountain which has a Caribbeanesque landscape, which include palm trees and singing birds.  There are a total of 5 pools, all of which are heated to 29⁰C the ambient air temperature is 32⁰C.  The most popular waterslide is 80m in length and features a 10m drop down to the pool. You can practice your diving in the 3.5m deep diving pool.  In amongst the palms are 5 spa pools all of which are heated to 37⁰C, as well as the steam bath.  

Outside the water world continues; including a large heated pool with fountains, sun decks, 2 saunas and an outdoor spa.

The hotel is great for kids (all children under 13 years of ages stay for free in the hotel).  As well as all the fun of the water park there's also jigsaws, computer games, reading and drawing.  There is a play area and there's also a "children's cinema".

The hotel is an ideal place for business meeting and conferences in Frederikshavn.  The hotel has a "directors' section" that contains designer furniture and is designed for 12 executives.  There is the conference lounge, with capacity suitable for about 50 delegates, which is perfect for sales exhibitions and low-key receptions.  In total there are 14 meeting and conference rooms so whatever your requirements the hotel can cater to your needs.  

The hotel has its own fitness room which includes complete with cardiovascular equipment and weight training machines.  

There is free wireless internet through out the hotel.

The Scandic hotel chain continually push to improve their environmental record, they first started to consider the environment as part of their daily operations in 1993, since then they have developed a one of the most rigorous environmental policies of any hotel chain in the world.  

The Scandic The Reef in Frederikshavn adheres to the high environmental standards of the Scandic Hotel chain.  The sustainability buildings policy includes trying to avoid the use of composite materials, use of materials that are sustainable in relation energy efficiency as well as to manufacture, transport, lifetime and recyclability, priority is given to materials that carry environmentally certified materials and materials that contain substances on the Swedish Chemicals Agency's restricted list or Scandic's "warning list" must not be used.

Energy consumption is s given careful consideration with renewable energy being used rather than fossil fuel sources.  Energy is also conserved through the use of low energy light bulbs, room key controlled lighting, efficient taps and showers heads.

There's a chilled out Caribbean vibe in the bars at the hotel, where you can relax at Calypso Bar, Lobster Bob's Beach Bar and the Sundeck Bar.  Which all serve a variety of drinks snacks.  The restaurants cuisine takes its inspiration from the Mediterranean and the Caribbean.  The Calypso restaurant is food with a Caribbean touch, which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner.  There's a number of Caribbean-inspired dishes on the menu.  In the Det Gule Pakhus restaurant the menu is a focused toward international cuisine with food inspired by Mediterranean cooking.Breakfast at the hotel is free.
