The Scandic Oscar hotel occupies a central location in Varkaus.  

The Warkaus-Sali Concert Hall is adjacent to the hotel, The Ilopisara Swimming Centre is close by and Varkaus attractions like the Theatre of Varkaus is within 2 km distance, whilst the Varkauden Museo (Museum of Varkaus) is 1km away.

The hotel is perfect choice for business engagements, conferences and meetings there 5 flexible meeting rooms which can accommodate from between from 10 to 28 people.  For large conferences and functions there is the conference/concert hall which can hold 500 people.  

There is plenty for kids at the hotel.   During their stay they can enjoy films at "Film Time" play some computer games, do some drawing, take time to read or do a jigsaw.  Kids under 13 stay for free.  There are high chairs in the restaurant as well as a "kids menu".  

The hotel has its own fitness room which has cardiovascular machines as well as free weights.  There are also 2 saunas within the hotel to help you relax.  

There is 1 room for disabled guests, this room has been modified for use by a wheelchair user.  The room has its own en-suite bathroom which has also been modified.  Hearing loops are available for guests to use at reception.  Guide dogs are also welcomed by staff at the hotel, who are also trained to help guests with disabilities.  There are 2 parking spaces for disabled drivers, there are automatic doors and ramps where required.  

There are 80 outside parking spaces, which are free for guests, as well as an additional 15 parking spaces within the hotel garage.  (Garage parking carries an additional charge).  

There is free wireless internet through out the hotel.

The Scandic hotel chain have developed on of the most clearly defined environmental policy of any accommodation provider in the world.  They started as far back as 1993 and this early start has meant they have been able to develop it to a very industry leading level.  The Scandic environmental policy is in place at Scandic Varkaus.  

The Scandic environmental policy is at the core of the hotels operation.  The cleaning of the hotel is done using only "eco-friendly" cleaning products.  The restaurant serves organic food wherever possible and no where in the hotel is any GM food served.  All coffee is either, "fairtrade" or another ethical alternative.  

In terms of water and energy management of the hotel it achieves as much conservation as possible using water efficient and energy efficient appliances.  The hotel also has electrical fittings like low-energy lighting and room key-controlled lighting and water conserving fittings such as low-flush toilets and efficient taps and showerheads.  

Hard waste is minimised where possible and waste generated is sorted into one of 22 different categories and recycled wherever possible.

The restaurant offers seasonal menus of à la carte dining and a selection of fine wines, in a relaxed convivial atmosphere.  (The restaurant offers gluten-free dishes).  Room Service is on offer as well, you can chose to enjoy the taste of the restaurants from menu from the comfort of your room.  (There is small charge attached to each room service order & room service is available during the open hours of the restaurant.)The hotel bar is great place to relax with its comfy couches and calming fireplace.  The bar offers a range of beers and ciders as well as whiskies from around the world.  Breakfast is included with the price of you stay at the hotel.
