Sustainable/Ethical Credentials
back to topBio-Diesel and Bio-Gas
The resort recycles vegetable oil from their kitchens to make 100% bio diesel . The resort produces between 200 to 400 liters per day. The dry coconut that is used to create the bio diesel is sourced from the local Samui community. The benefit of the creation of the bio-diesel is two-fold: The money made from the sale of the dry coconut is ploughed back into the local economy, it provides a sustainable energy LINK source locally. The resort uses its own bio diesel for the host truck, the gardener truck and the onsite fogging machine. several purposes including the gardener truck, fogging machine and host truck.
The resort also creates their own bio-gas which is derived from turning the resorts composted waste which is a mixture of leaves from the resort's jungle and the resort’s sewage water to create bio-gas. The bio-gas is then used to power the water pump in the nursery area.
Water Conservation and Horticulture
Six Senses Samui use filter waste water using their Waste Water Treatment Plant. The “grey water” generated by the resort laundry and restrooms goes through a natural filtration system. The water is filtered through natural materials such as rock, sand and pine wood, then the water is oxygenated. The final filter is through charcoal, broken ceramic and “sand wash #5”. The cleaned and treated water is then used on the resorts vegetable gardens which are both sold and used in the resort.
The resort grow their own organic foods wherever possible, they gave three herb gardens, one is within view of the “Dining on the Hill” restaurant. No insecticides are used and only resort generate compost is used to feed the plants. Herbs are grown for the use of the spa within the resort itself.
Recycling
The “Heart of the House” has a recycling collection point where household items that can be recycled are deposited before being taken to be recycled. Materials that are recycled include; paper, aluminium, plastic, glass and organic waste.
